Lake Mburo National Park extends over 260 km2 in western Ankole of western Uganda between 1220m – 1828 m above sea level. It the smallest of Uganda’s savannah grassland parks. Aside from savannah, its vegetation is scattered with rocky ridges and forested gorges. Papyrus swamp and a little bit of woodland surround the five lakes that lie withing the park’s borders. Lake Mburo is the largest of the five lakes that lie within the park’s boundaries. The Park has become a popular overnight stop enroute between Bwindi or Queen Elizabeth National Parks.

Some Giraffe’s can also be found within the park having been introduced from Murchison Falls National Park. Primates such as the olive baboon and vervet monkeys have also been recorded. Lake Mburo National Park is one of the few national parks that will give you a chance to spot nocturnal wildlife such as hyenas, bushbabies, galagos and leopards in night game drives.

Cycling trips into the national park from Nshara entrance Gate are operated by various service providers and offer a nice opportunity to explore the park’s environs. A bike safari is best booked in advance as only a few bikes are available for each day. Biking allows you to stop along the trails to see the insects and smaller mammals that you would otherwise not see on an ordinary game drive. Biking could go from 1 – 5hours depending on your fitness levels.
