EXCELLENT Based on 72 reviews Posted on Omar PVerified Beautiful experience, super recommended Beautiful journey to discover the largest parks in the country. Big Apes leaves full availability of choice in dates and allows you to adapt the itinerary to your travel needs. In 11 days we explored the east of the country to discover habitats and landscapes always different by spotting hundreds of animals including all the Big Five (yes even the leopard, we were lucky!). Do not miss the Chimpanzee trekking and Gorilla trekking to immerse yourself in the rainforest on the border with Congo. To make everything truly unique the experience and professionalism of our Ronaldo guide who guided us in sightings helping us to better understand the dynamics of behavior and characteristics of the animals. Always very kind, punctual and available to chat and answer many questions and curiosities. Among the activities that we enjoyed the most, and that we recommend to include in your tour, the boat safaris with the opportunity to see also very close hippos, buffaloes, crocodiles, elephants and an extraordinary variety of birds. All accommodations were very cozy and well organized, dinners with great and varied food.Posted on D MVerified DON'T TRUST BIG APES, NEITHER PETER I've contacted Big Apes in March to book a trip for August. When I was still asking for quotes, the communication was polite and efficient. However, just after I've paid the deposit, the communication changed to rude and unreliable. After the payment, I've checked with the accommodations and they haven't received any request on my name. So then I've asked Big Apes if my hotel reservations were made and if they could send me the receipt for the trekking permit. After being ignored and asking again and again, I've received the following answer from Peter, the agency's owner : "We don't account to our guests but our auditors unless you are conducting an investigation. You paid for a service because you were convinced that we would offer you the service. We procure permits in company names and not one at a time only but sometimes in bulk, information we cannot share with you. You are free to sue us when your time comes and we don't offer the service. Should you have a change of heart, we are happy to offer you a refund under our cancellation times. The only receipt you are entitled to is the one in our company names for the money you sent. Kindly let me know if this is clear to you." At this moment I had my first shiver down my spine. Don't they account to their guests ???? I've paid for a private tour and I had to wait for them to make the reservations in a bulk ???? Anyway, when I asked about cancellation, I've received an email with apologies (not from Peter, from someone else, never from Peter) for the harsh way of communication from their colleague and they said my tour were secured with them and that their drivers/guides were very professional (I thought the owner would be too, but I was wrong). I decided to give them another chance. After few weeks, no reservations yet. When I've asked when my reservation would be made, again they didn't want to commit and said that they couldn't tell me when (without a signature on the email this time). After asking again and again, they said my reservations would be made in July (my trip would be in August and August is high season). Then, I've requested the cancellation and, as you can guess, another headache then began. After being ignored again and I had to keep asking again and again, they said the refund would be made in September (after 5 months, but the agreement was 4 months) even they haven't done any reservation. I asked why it would be made in 5 months instead of what we agreed and I was ignored, of course. I've tried to ask few more times but no answer at all. I gave up and waited. September arrived and, of course, no refund, so I've sent a couple of emails, but no answer at all. Anyway, despite having lost money, I am grateful for the deliverance, it could be worse. DO NOT TRUST BIG APES NEITHER PETER, the communication completely change after making the payment, they don't keep their word and they don't refund your money, if it's the case, even promising you they will. I had USD 1,079.24 lost and my time wasted. DON'T CHOOSE BIG APES !!!Posted on jorge rVerified Incredible Safari Experience We went on a 3-day safari with Big Apes Africa to see gorillas in Bwindi and Golden Monkeys in Volcanoes National Park. Everything was excellent: the organization was flawless and our guide, Blair, was amazing—very attentive, a great driver, and always willing to help. The gorilla experience was truly unforgettable, and I would definitely recommend Big Apes Africa to anyone who wants to live this adventure.Posted on Paola FVerified Worth the trip A good organization that led to an exciting experience in a fantastic country. Special thanks to Ben, a competent guide and excellent driver, an indispensable condition for a sometimes difficult territory. The experience with the gorillas, and the boat trip to Kazinga Canal are worth the trip, and will remain indelible in my best memories.Posted on Fab FVerified DON'T BOOK WITH THEM GREAT guide/driver, but TERRIBLE office organisation. DON'T BOOK WITH THEM!I work in the Tourist Industry and I'm very very expert and objective: NEVER TRUST BIG APES AND PETER FOR YOU TRIP TO UGANDAOur tour guide, SAM WAAKO, was wonderful - knowledgeable, communicative and funny. The safari itself was great. However, the office organisation was TERRIBLE, NOT UP TO PAR.... Peter (the manager) was absolutely silent. No call, no email, no communication whatsoever IF NOT THROUGH THE GUIDE BUT I BELIEVE A MANAGER WHO CONSIDERS HIMSELF AS SUCH SHOULD PICK UP THE PHONE AND TALK TO THE CUSTOMER WHO IS COMPLAINING OF A PROBLEMMy advice would be - book with a different company. It's all fine if everything goes well, but if there's a problem then They won't solve it.Posted on nellnpVerified BEST SAFARI AND GORILLA TOUR OPERATOR IN UGANDA Go no further in your search for an Ugandan safari operator! I am a 54 woman who recently completed a Ugandan Gorilla Safari with my 21 yo son encompassing Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Rwanda’s Volcanos National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kibale National Park and Murchison Falls National Park that was a bit over two wks long. Big Apes is passionate about providing outstanding service that is well-priced, comprehensive, safety-driven, educative, flexible, and most of all FUN. Bella at the main office was patient, kind, informative and considerate as we spent much time together during the pre-trip planning stage, incorporating all the many details that go into an endeavor like this. Once we got on the ground, she checked on us regularly. Our driver and guide Ben was simply AMAZING. From the very start, our pick up at 3:30 am at the airport, Ben was positive, energetic, organized, calm, competent, humorous, well mannered, smart and considerate. In addition to being on par w any Formula Driver navigating long arduous roads and dizzying city traffic, Ben had the management skills of a Fortune 500 CEO seamlessly gliding through a torrent of paperwork at each national park and at the international border we had to cross and cheerfully interacting w rangers, hotel staff, guides and personnel of every stripe. Did I mention that Ben did all of this in like SEVEN LANGUAGES?? But my favorite thing about Ben was that he a born naturalist with an stunning knowledge base of the animals, flora and fauna we were coming across and even acted as a de facto game drive tracker on days where we did not have an official tracker accompanying us. Ben also taught us so so much about Ugandan ecology, geography, history and culture. He took us for local food that we would NEVER have had on our own. He was flexible, calm, rigorous and punctual and we really got the impression that our well being and happiness was his one guiding principle. This is a trustworthy serious company that bends over backwards for the one thing that it is passionate about: showing its customers the true meaning of the phrase : ‘Pearl of Africa’!Posted on Franco MVerified Unforgettable Experience in Rwanda & Uganda We had a wonderful trip through Rwanda and Uganda with many unforgettable moments. The wildlife encounters, beautiful landscapes, and diverse activities made this journey truly special. Our guides were friendly and knowledgeable, and the lodges were comfortable. A great way to experience the beauty of both countries – highly recommended!Posted on martaVerified 8 days of perfect honeymoon, Ben was a super driver! We spent 8 days in Uganda visiting Kibale NP, Queen Elizabeth NP, chimps trekking, gorilla trekking, Lake Bunyonyi, to Lake Mburo NP. During our visit everything was great we explore the nature of this beautiful country and we had the chance to see many animals. The trekking to see chimps and particularly the gorillas was unforgetteable. The accomodations were good for the majority, there were nothing to complain with, some of them were better then other but apart that in general We are satisfied. One big mention it has to be done for our driver Ben which was always safe in driving, happy to answear all the questions and to respond to our requests. Moreover He always explained to us what we were going to do the next day and He was so precise in respecting the leaving time, sometimes he ask us to get up early in order to enjoy the wild animals that can be spotted at that early time, infact one day we could spot two lions and there were just our car on the street! If you want to do the tour with this company ask for Ben as a driver!Posted on lastarlettefilanteVerified Wonderful guide, awful office organisation. Don't book with them! Our tour guide, Blair, was wonderful - knowledgeable, communicative and funny. The safari itself was great. However, the office organisation was problematic. Firstly, we only received the link for the final payment while we were on tour, in a rural area where wifi kept dropping. When we told the office that the wifi meant the payment was proving difficult, they told us we had to pay before the next day or the activities would be cancelled, placing undue pressure on us in a difficult situation. We tried again, and finally the problematic wifi allowed the payment to go through. However, the glitchy wifi meant that payment was taken twice from my card. I communicated this to the office, and while Bella replied to me via whatsapp, Peter (the finance manager) was absolutely silent. No call, no email, no communication whatsoever. The problem has been ignored completely. I have now raised a process with my card issuer. Which did not need to happen if they had just sent a refund. My advice would be - book with a different company. It's all fine if everything goes well, but if there's a problem then these guys won't solve it.Posted on Farangees YVerified Gorilla trek experience & more Big Apes Africa was amazing. They are very responsive, well thought out plan, very communicative, and overall organized. We loved our driver Andrew who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying the journey. He was very insightful, honest, and so fun! We appreciate Andrew and the whole Big Ape company for making our dreams of gorilla trek come true! We highly recommend this tour group for a gorilla trek or any other tours they provide. Thank you all again for your hospitality and generosity! 💕
